Friends, Family, Students, Tribe, Fellow Adventurers of Sexuality, Spirit and Life…

As many of you may have heard by now, I have had severe health concerns since mid-July.  These are connected to my long term health issues, but I am in the midst of a flare up.  Between July and December, I have had to cancel 13 gigs related to my health.  Folks have asked for some time how they can help.  This post is the answer.

My capacity to pay my bills is related to working.  I am not working.  To pay my bills thus far I have been going through my savings.  Though I may be rich of memories and friends, I am not as financially well off as I would like- and after October rent gets paid in 2 weeks, I am out of funds.

Aiden (my partner and Boy) starts his new job at the end of October, and thus we will be able to pay bills again starting in late November.  However, I need help. I have never asked for money in my life beyond my closest family and friends.  This post was very hard to write, and I ask to be treated gently in your responses.

So, how can you help?

• Donate funds.  I need money for November rent, October and November bills/food, and paying back flights from classes I had to cancel (and have been unable to reschedule).  I need just shy of $3000 to do all of the above.  These funds can be sent via PayPal (see sidebar on website, or use ropelover@ropelover.com- and if you say “I owe them money, there is no fee), or by emailing Aiden@AidenFyre.com to get our address for sending a check.
• Purchase a Book.  The funds will not reach me until the end of November, but it is still appreciated.  If you purchase via Mystic Productions Press, I get 6-10 times more money than if you purchase via Amazon.com.  This is true for most authors and publishers, but Amazon is better than no sales.
• Come by my home in Brooklyn to clean, cook, bring over food, do laundry, go grocery shopping, walk the dog, organize the house, or help in some other way.  This does not mean come over and hang out.  I am very low on energy/spoons, and though I appreciate the intention of folks wanting to hang out, please know that if you offer to do one of the above, it must be with the knowledge that I may not even have the capacity to say hello depending on the day.
• Gift certificates.  For FreshDirect.com, Amazon.com, a local massage therapist (or if you are one, coming over to do work for cheap/free), Costco, or getting me a Netflix account… all would be amazing.
• Providing rides.  These may be for me or Aiden, but the capacity to get easier to doctor appointments, hospital visits, petco, costco, his mother’s place on Long Islan, etc would be lovely.
• Purchase something for me off my Amazon “Lee’s Desires” wishlist.
• Write a review for one of my books on Lulu.com, Amazon.com or other sites.
• Go to my “Fans” page and write a class review, or in general let the world know I am a cool person so that when I start really working again in the new year, I will have some cred that makes up for me having been forced to take a chunk of time off.
• Help my partner in some way.  Aiden has had to be my primary care person for 2 months, including through some very dark times.  This might be sending him some twitter love, a fetlife note, or helping him do projects he *needs* to get done before he starts his new job October 24th.  If you are a close friend or lover, spoil him.  Please.  He deserves it, and I have been far from my standard capacity.
• Go out and inspire someone.  Share love with the world.  Follow your bliss.  Pass on something I taught you.  Share a journal entry of mine that inspired you.  In general, keep the work going… because right now I can’t.  Right now, I have to get through this, and set up enough of a health foundation to not have this come up in a few months.
• Resist sending me “get better fast” notes.  It will take what it takes, and I don’t need the pressure of being told ya’ll “need me back out working” when I already feel like crap for having to cancel.  I do not cancel lightly, and this has been a series of very hard decisions.
• Pass this message on.

I sincerely apologize to Open Love NY, The Floating World (NJ), Kink Academy, Rope Camp,  Fascinations in Phoenix, and Kinky & Geeky AZ for classes I had to cancel at last minute in the past 6 weeks.  I am now having to cancel teaching/speaking appearances at the Master/slave Conference (MD), Dark Odyssey: Summer Camp (MD), Perspectives on Power (Toronto), GTARS (Tornoto), Red Umbrella Project (NYC), Board of Education (Detroit), and Northern Exposure 2.5 (Anchorage).   Our hope is to re-schedule cancelled classes for 2012, but I am not making new arrangements until I am healthier.

This decision was a very hard one to make, and will be challenging on many fronts for many producers, students, and myself. These decisions were not made lightly, and I am grateful for so many folks’ understanding.

The next two months are so exciting for me, and busy, that I am feeling truly blessed and overwhelmed.  I am moving cross country, teaching classes, doing an intensive, leading a book signing, and so much more.  And that’s just just in the next 3 weeks.  I will have another newsletter for May stuff go out shortly, because gosh, there is just so much going on.  It’s an embarrassment of riches, really

I’ve been in Arizona for just over 2 years, and its been an amazing ride. I will miss my crew here, A LOT. I’ll be back teaching for Fascinations in August, so it’s not like I’m going away forever… and hell, with house prices here, I may just be back.

But, why do things by halves?  Why just move, when I can have this also be a fundraiser, teaching/performance tour, and in general do some good in the world while I go?

The idea:

Start in Phoenix, end in Brooklyn.  Teach classes and do performances/appearances, to split funds between my rental vehicle and Camp Ten Trees, a summer camp for GLBT kids, and also for the kids of GLBT, Polyamous and other “alt” families.  I really believe in the work that these folks are doing, and to be honest, the world will flat out not allow me to “just move cross country” unless I leave a positive impact as I go.  No, really, I had to barter for this one.

Rope bondage is a wonderful tool for spicing up your sex life- from binding legs open for access to the loins to turning a bed into somewhere a lover can’t escape from, giving into their desires. We will learn how to make simple restraints for spread-eagle poses or binding lovers to chairs, as well as exploring ways to bind limb to limb, body to body, crotch ropes (and how to convert them into pieces that can be fucked through), and more. Let’s explore and think creatively about techniques for adding bondage to your style of sensuality and sex. Bring at least one 25-30ft piece of rope, and a dildo if you have one, for hands-on play, though limited supplies will be available to borrow from the instructor.

Saturday, April 9th – St. Louis, Missouri

K.U.F.F. in Conjunction with the Charenton Social Club is putting on a Social/Play Party Combining a Kinky Prom and Rope Extravaganza!

From 6 to 8pm I will be teaching a hands on class called “Rope Sex: Bondage For Lovemaking and More.” Please bring your own 20-30ft piece of rope to play along… though he will have plenty to borrow as well. Join the Rainbow Munch of Pittsburgh as we welcome back Lee Harrington for another wonderful sharing of information.  Proceeds from this event will go to a GLBT charity known as Camp Ten Trees as Lee is making a non-profit tour across the country, traveling with Minnesotan sex educator Scott Thomson.  Pittsburgh has been picked as one of the stops.  Way to go Pittsburgh Scene!

On Monday April 11^th, Lee Harrington will be back with us to teach “Bondage and Breath”.  Here is what the class will involve.

Rope bondage effects how we breathe- from the constriction of rope corsets and chest harnesses to positional asphyxia. But how we breathe also has the power to effect how we do bondage-chest breathing vs. belly breathing, intentional breathing for connection, and more. We will look into how breath moves through the body, how bondage positions effect how we breathe, then work to see how ties effect breath before diving into styles of breathing, breath training for bondage bottoms (and riggers too), and connecting through breath in our ties.  This lecture is hands on.

While this sounds awesome, we want to let you know there is extra awesome for this event.  Lee will be traveling with another presenter who is also willing to do a class for the Camp Ten Trees Charity Tour.  So if Bondage/Breath is not your thing, attend and meet Scott Thomson as he teaches “Sensational Safer Sex: Making Your Sex Hot Steamy and Safer.”  That’s right, two amazing classes to choose from, benefiting Camp Ten Trees:

Are hot sex and safer sex the same thing? For many of us, having sensational safer sex can be a struggle. Whether it is talking about STIs with partners, the awkward dash into the other room to find a condom, or the seemingly impossible task of holding a dental dam in place, putting the safer into the sexy can be a challenge. In this workshop we will expand our definitions of sex, reengineer the role that barriers play, and explore techniques and strategies for the seamless integration of safer sex in to all of our hot, steamy action.

Scott Thomson began his career as a Sexuality Educator at the University of California at Davis in 1991, shortly after attending the Folsom Street Fair for the first time. He worked for Planned Parenthood for nearly a decade as a Reproductive Health Specialist and Sex Educator in Northern California with a focus on HIV and STI prevention. As a trainer, Scott has developed curricula and provided training for health care providers and educators to help better address their clients’ needs focusing on sexuality and HIV / STI treatment and prevention.  Based now in St. Paul, Minnesota, Scott is a Leatherman, craftsperson and outspoken activist, continuing to do outreach work wherever and whenever possible.  Always an innovator, Scott’s workshops are dynamic, interactive and entertaining. I have been out of touch on newsletters… the end of the year slipped away in a haze of surgeries and love.  Both went well.  Very well in fact.  After 6 weeks my doctors gave me a complete recovery clearance, and I am now back on the road, and ready for new adventures!

During my 2 months at home, I wasn’t just knitting my body back together… though there was a fair amount of that.  Since the end of November I’ve had some pretty exciting adventures, including launching a new book- “Spirit of Desire: Personal Explorations in Sacred Kink.”

I am holed up as we speak, writing curriculum for the sold out Alternative Lifestyles Presenter Education Conference (http://www.ALPSEC.com), which I am being incredibly happy about.  The material is turning out beautifully, and don’t be surprised if it turns into a book  I am also in the midst of editing “Spirit of Desire: Personal Journeys in Sacred Kink.”  Expect the book, full of personal tales and amazing insight, to hit your hands before Solstice/Christmas.

This last month has been a whirlwind of challenge and delight.  September began with my interview for Tantra Cafe, followed by an amazing 4 days of rituals and performances with the incredible Ava Amnesia at Primal Arts Festival.

I then winged north to attend Dark Moon Rising, a beautiful private kink/pagan retreat at Cauldron Farm in Massachusetts, where I married myself in a private ceremony.  Read about my reasons why here:

Afterwards I headed down to Dark Odyssey Summer Camp, where I built beautiful sexy spaces with my fantastic crew, led two delicious rituals, and assisted with two classes by the fascinating WinterSong Tashlin.

The next month is not quite as jam-packed… but the work I am doing is pretty inspiring.  Performances with the Strowlers crew, book writing work, a great class lineup in Phoenix, Boston, South Carolina and Seattle, and some time to connect with my biological family and family of the heart.

It was also a month of sadness, beauty, and transformation.  A relationship of three years and I turned the corner into friendship, but the loss was intense, as were the new gains as both of us have learned so much about ourselves and our journeys.  You can read some of my realizations over on my journal:

I am madly working on my next solo book, while also editing an anthology called “Spirit of Desire.”  These authors are blowing me away in their honesty, refreshing insights, passion and vulnerability.  My own quest for and into these things has me off to do 3 weeks of intense ritual work on the east coast- 2 of the 3 still have tickets, see below.  During that time I will be flying in the air, connecting with the land, and finally marrying a man I fell deeply in in love with and want to commit myself to with all my heart- myself.

My swimming pool is fixed, my home has been transformed into having an actual office space, and every day I find myself more surprised and delighted by the world and my people in it.  I am grateful for the treasures the world has offered me, offered each of us- even (and perhaps especially) when they come wrapped in unexpected packages.

The last month has been a whirlwind of adventure. I taught Delving Into Power in Arizona and had a fantastic time with an awesome mix of students. In St. Louis I connected with the under-35 crew of kinky folk over great food before teaching an action packed lineup of classes at Beat Me in St. Louis… a must-do event for that region. I winged my way to Portland, Oregon to teach at Kinkfest where I connected with friends old and new alike, and I even got to get to Michigan for my very first time- where I debuted two new classes for the Leather Leadership Conference on age dynamics in sexuality communities and on effective speaking skills.

But it wasn’t all teaching! My mother and I had a family get-away to Vancouver, BC, which was an absolute delight, where I got to savor the flavors of Little India and have a blast wandering the maze at the Arboretum. Back home in Arizona I brought on… a Magical Assistance Ninja! Ok, other folks would call what she does personal assistance- but its more than that for me. My vision for building a world of emotionally sustainable and fullfilled humans who are expressing their erotic authenticity is too big for just me, and it’s a delight to have Luna on board as part of the PassionAndSoul team.
